Sep 10th
FFXIV is coming nearly, are you looking forward to playing the game? Today here The art director will talk about Final Fantasy XIV the latest video, have a look below now.

One of the defining elements of Final Fantasy XI was the attention to detail, with every area of the world carefully crafted for maximum verisimilitude. It’s a tradition that has been carried on to Final Fantasy XIV, with the game’s art direction as one of its primary selling points. Akihiko Yoshida, the art director for the game, shares his thoughts on the design of the game and his hopes for the player experience in the newest Making of Eorzea video, embedded after the cut.
Yoshida discusses the added challenges experienced with the game’s dynamic format, as well as the many ways that the team has tried to expand upon the lessons learned from Final Fantasy XI. Players of the open beta have no doubt noticed the amount of detail going into each environment, and it helps make even mundane tasks more enjoyable. See what Yoshida has to say about designing Final Fantasy XIV’s visuals after the cut, and keep your eyes open as the open beta continues (Square-Enix has been rolling out a new patch nearly every day).

FFXIV Open Beta Bring The Changes
Aug 31st
Move your sights here now. We are going to take you to see some info about FFXIV Open Beta here. Follow me.
Players who have longed for a chance to play Final Fantasy XIV and haven’t been selected for the game’s beta yet can take heart. The open beta will begin on August 31st, and players are already able to begin downloading the client. (With the latest patch at 1.24 gigabytes, we do mean “begin downloading.” It’ll be a while.) That means that you can see for yourself whether the outraged reaction to the fatigue system is entirely deserved, along with any other questions you might have about gameplay.
As has been the pattern for the game’s testing, the newest build includes several updates to UI functionality and the implementation of further core features, although it’s still unclear if this version is the same as the release version due out in a bit less than a month. Chat modes and friend list features have been implemented, as well as a further listing of emotes for various situations. FFXIVCore has put together a decent list of the beta changes, something that should be of interest to the many Final Fantasy XIV hopefuls due to start trying the game soon.

Final Fantasy XIV:Completing the look
Aug 12th
We are happy that you are here. It’s only been a day since Final Fantasy XIV’s newest round of beta started up, but the first day included the announcement that screenshots and experiences from beta could be shared freely. So, as one can imagine, there’s plenty of information being shared all over the internet. Today has seen the intrepid staff at FFXIVCore delving into the depths of the character creator, testing the limits of just how powerful it really is. It’s not just a significant upgrade from Final Fantasy XI, but quite a potent tool in its own right.

Of course, the one thing that can’t be shared from the beta is video… but that doesn’t mean you have to go without moving pictures. Dovetailing nicely with an article on illustrating your character is the newest installment of Square-Enix’s Making of Eorzea videos, this one focusing on equipment variations to keep every character looking distinct. The video is embedded past the cut, and should provide both familiar and new looks for Final Fantasy XIV’s eager audience.
Final Fantasy 14 Disciples of the Hand
Jul 21st
Waiting for the FFXIV game? First take a look at a preview of Final Fantasy XIV Disciples of the Hand below. We also like to crafting preview with a look at the Goldsmith, the Armourer, and the Woodworker.
Goldsmith
First we come to the goldsmith, the creator of all that glistens and glitters. Their name says it all. They work with gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, and other precious metals and gems to create beautiful trinkets for both the adventurer and the fashionista. As with all MMORPGs, they will create necklaces, rings, and earrings with status-boosting properties. However, this class comes with its share of risks. The gold market is always expensive and turbulent. One day, you may be able to pick up some gold ore for a handful of gil, and the next you will be paying double or triple that amount. One motto to always keep in mind is “High risk, high reward.” At first, you may feel like you’re dumping gil with little return, but over time you will begin to see your dedication rewarded. If you’re dedicated enough, you can create a Miner and harvest the ore yourself. This will massively reduce your out-of-pocket expense and thus increase your profits. At this time, there is little information on what skills this class will come equipped with, but I will keep you all informed.

Armourer
Here we have our trusty Armorer. With hammer in hand, these masters of metallurgy create intricate breastplates and chainmails to protect those who stand at the front lines of battle. Typically, blacksmiths have created armor, but today we see that these artisans are a breed of their own. As with the Blacksmith, the tools of the trade will be Iron, Steel, Darksteel, and many other types of metal, so we will see a bit of volatility in the ore market as the Blacksmiths and Armorers begin battling for control. Tie this class to a Miner and your profits, as well as work load, will be endless. Armorers will be capable of creating plate mail, chain mail, and scale mail types of armor, as well as shields. At this time, it is unknown as to what skills this class will have, but I will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Woodworker
Finally, we come to the woodworker. These fine artisans will create the very things each player will need. Their list of creations include bows, staves, clubs, furniture and much much more. They will rely upon the Harvester for the wood that they require. Due to woodworkers being the primary source of arrows and other tools, this class will never have a reason to not create something. Fisherman will need rods, Miners need cut wood for their pickaxes, and so on. As of this time, there’s little information about skills for this class, but I will keep you updated as more information is released.

Final Fantasy 14: Icons in Eorzea- Gil
Jul 14th
The Final Fantasy series has a long and rich history from which the developers can pull many beloved characters and themes. With each new installment, many fans wait anxiously for the quote or screenshot that reveals their favorite icon will appear once again. Some are borrowed from the page of history, and others crafted from the imaginations of creators at Square Enix. All of them, however, have changed and developed over the 20-plus years since the series’ inception.
As we look back, we hope to show long-time fans how Eorzea has been shaped by these influences while newcomers may gain some insight as to why these aspects of Final Fantasy are so special.
Origin
Like many aspects of Final Fantasy, the early years can contain many inconsistancies when comparing the Japanese and English versions. However, in the first title for the NES, the Japanese version alone was confusing in its own right.
In Final Fantasy the first, money in the Japanese version was “Gold” and units of gold were “Gil.” So, when you defeated a monster, you would receive “10 gil in gold.” Then on the status screen, your gil-gold was simply labeled “G”. It’s no wonder why the English translation simply went with “gold” and left it that way.
But what is “gil” exactly? There doesn’t seem to be a clear explanation for the initial use of gil. In Final Fantasy IV, it was claimed that the family of Gilbert (Edward the Bard’s Japanese name) coined the term, but this only really applies to that particular world and appears to be an after-the-fact explanation anyway.
There is an old English measurement of volume, the gill, which is about a quarter-pint. While it’s written the same way (ギル) and would fit in terms of the medieval fantasy setting, the gill is apparently only used for liquids. Another theory is that Square derived the term from the word “kill,” as in money you get when you kill the enemy. “Kill” by itself was a little too harsh, so it was modified to gil.
It could even have a connection to the word guild, which is similar to gold in Japanese ギルド・ゴルド. According to my JP-JP dictionary, guild is defined as a group of merchants in medeival Europe, so it’s possible they modified the word to serve as units of gold when dealing with merchants. But who knows, at this point we’re just grasping at straws.
UPDATE: At the risk of going overboard on the theories, PLDXavier in the forums also had an interesting suggestion that “gil” may have come from the word “gilt.” Gilt, in its noun form refers to gold applied in the process of gilding, as well as serves as a slang term for money. The first two characters also match up with gil (ギル).
Development
Gil has not changed very much over the years. On the Japanese side, it started in katakana (ギル) which is an alphabet for phonetically spelling foreign words, among other uses. In Final Fantasy II, it became hiragana (ぎる) then switched to simply (G) in Final Fantasy III, and then from the SNES era on was known as gil ギル in katakana.
In RPGs released in North America, we’ve seen a couple different translations. There was the standard “gold” at first, which old-school table-top RPGers would certainly be familiar with. We have also seen “zeni” in certain instances, like “Zeni Toss” in older fan-translations and even other RPG series. Now, we also have Zeni Notorious Monsters in Final Fantasy XI.
Zeni (pictured above) is actually the Japanese word for coin, usually in the way we use “change” to refer in small coins in general. The kanji also reads “sen”, and can specifically refer to the unit sen, which is equal to 0.01 yen. If you think that’s tiny, there is also the rin which is 1/10th of a sen! Fortunately, all coins under the yen were removed from circulation in 1953. Coins are used for everything up through 500 yen (about $5) so it can be a pain carrying them all around. Nowadays, the unit sen is used mainly for accuracy in currency exchange rates and the stock market.
Gil and Zeni have played off each other a bit throughout the Final Fantasy series. The previously mentioned “Zeni Toss” (?投げ) remains the same in Japan, but English translations now use Gil Toss, which replaces Zeni with the in-game currency, or Spare Change, which refers to the literal meaning of Zeni as “coins of a small denomination.” There is also the Gilgame (ギルガメ), a somewhat recurring turtle monster, which is a play on the word Zenigame (ゼニガメ), a baby pond turtle.
Beyond the little yellow coins we have seen during a Gil Toss, it has never been very clear how these coins actually look. In Final Fantasy XI, we simply have the gold coin for an icon, while ancient currency is more detailed. Final Fantasy X was probably the first game that made it clear, and we can see they roughly correspond to the style of yen, being mostly circular, printed in the same denominations, and some having holes in the middle.
In Eorzea
No surprise here, but gil has been confirmed by the developers to be the standard currency in Final Fantasy XIV. Also, to the joy of Vana’diel veterans, it stands to be much more plentiful. Gil can be earned by defeating monsters, selling goods and participating in Guildleves. For the beta, the developers stated they were altering the Guildleve system to better reward all party members instead of just the player who initiates the quest. Earning gil will be much less of a chore in the land of Eorzea if things work out as planned.
A stroll through Limsa-Lominsa’s merchant area also reveals that NPC shops will play a much larger role in the daily life of an adventurer. Instead of a limited selection of overpriced goods, it seems there will be a lot more places to put your gil to good use.
The only thing we don’t know about gil yet is what its exchange rate to dollars is going to be. Let’s hope Sage Sundi and the Eorzean Special Task Force make it so we never find out!

Final Fantasy 14 Disciples of the Hand
Jul 13th
Friends here, now we will introduce the Final Fantasy XIV Disciples of the Hand and the new crafting system to you. Check it below:
Once again, we delve into the world of Eorzea to find out more about the new crafting system. Unlike many MMORPGs where crafting and gathering are side jobs, Square-Enix has brought these jobs into the mainstream, by actually making them playable classes. Lets see what they have in store for us using this new and somewhat controversial system.
The Disciples of the Hand are your traditional crafters. Classes include Armorer, Woodworker, Goldsmith, Leatherworker, Alchemist, Weaver, Culinarian and Blacksmith. They provide your equipment, your furniture, your food, and probably many other required items needed to progress in Final Fantasy XIV. Unlike many other games where you learn a crafting skill from a NPC and begin to progress over time, you are thrown directly into the responsibility of providing your fellow adventurers with quality items they request. Information is a bit sketchy about some classes, but in the meantime let’s take a look at each of these professions more in depth with what information has been provided.
Blacksmith
Up first we have the trusty blacksmith. An artisan with steel and an anvil, these crafters will be in very high demand. This class primarily creates metallic weapons, such as swords and polearms, as well as tools needed for mining and harvesting. If you played Final Fantasy XI and became a blacksmith, you will see many similarities. Your primary function is to create the weapons and tools that players need to survive and thrive. You will of course be using Iron, Steel, Darksteel, and various other materials to build the weapons that are requested of you.

As for group use, blacksmiths will be taking care of repairs to people’s weapons and tools, which will more than likely be their primary source of income. Blacksmiths have a nice skill that allows them to locate hard to find loot that could be easily overlooked as well as a skill that weakens Metallic enemies.
Culinarian
Meat, cheese, vegetables, and drinks are this class’ bread-and-butter. In Final Fantasy XI, cooks provided many stat-enhancing foods to countless adventurers. In most cases, if you didn’t have the right food, you were almost useless in a party. From what has been revealed, Final Fantasy XIV will have a similar system. Food and drink will provide stat buffs, HP and MP regen, and more. Very little information has been given about this class. Rest assured, this will probably be one of the most profitable disciplines out there. It is currently unknown what kind of buff skill this class will carry.

Weaver
Need a good tunic or some new pants? The weaver is your go-to guy. These artisans of clothing will be the life’s blood of the caster classes, as they will provide most of the cloth equipment that they will need. Considering the capability for adventurers to switch jobs on the fly, and the high demand of caster classes, this trade will end up being very profitable for any who decide to take up the needle and thread. At this time, no information has been released on what skills this class will utilize.

Leatherworker
A ranged- or assassin-type class is never complete without a handy leather jerkin, and who better to turn to than the masters of leather? Leatherworkers can create all kinds of leather items, ranging from jerkins and gloves to belts and mantles. Due to the wide range of items that this class can create, more than likely everyone will at least need one piece of equipment from a leatherworker, meaning that there will never be a dull day for a devoted crafter of this profession. At this time, its unknown what this class will have in terms of buffs and enemy debuffs.

Alchemists
As battles wage on, fatigue will inevitably set in. Poisons will ravage the body, while the damage from your enemy’s blows will surely drain you. Have no fear, your trusty alchemist is here! Need a potion to recover your HP, or an antidote to relieve you of that pesky poison effect? An alchemist can make those for you. As with all Final Fantasy games, potions are almost required for any expedition into the unknown. After all, who wants to be in the middle of the field, half way to your desired location, and fall over dead just because a funguar decided he was going to smack you with poison? More than likely, this profession will be very lucrative for those who devote the time needed to analyze the market and see what potions are selling the best. At this time it is unknown what buffs this class will have.

Many people I have spoken to have mixed feelings about this new system, due to the appearance of limitations on how your character can progress. After all, who wants to sit next to an anvil or stand in a field harvesting grain day in and day out? Due to the Armory system, there is a strong chance that you will be able to slip into more rugged equipment and slay your own monsters instead of relying entirely upon a group for your adventuring desires. We’ll soon find out as launch is fast approaching.
